In the area of industrial automation, the importance of ethernet as cabling media continuously grows. So far, integrating devices with the widespread 3964R communication processor usually meant having to perform modifications to programming or hardware. With 3964NET from Langner, these often hazardous modifications are a thing of the past. The 3964R protocol is performed independently of the serial port and the transmission of user data occurs over TCP. Incoming TCP data is passed on to the connected serial device via the 3964R protocol.
The entire 3964R protocol is executed within the gateway, including all receipts and time limit monitoring. Synchronization characters and receipt reports no longer have to be sent through the complete network, which is one of the most important advantages to 3964NET compared to simple terminal or COM servers. 3964R time limit overflow due to collisions or network overload is thereby ruled out. Communication is more stable and data volume is remarkably lower.
Configuration of the 3964NET is done over a separate serial setup port, where IP address, transmission speed of the serial port as well as numerous 3964R parameters (sending priority, maximum bulk size and receipt or character lag time) can be defined. 3964NET was made for the industrial environment with its slide-capable box and a 24V power supply.
Basically all applications with TCP socket support are usable looking from the PC side.
Activation from the PC is particularly easy with LUCA, the driver framework from Langner. LUCA offers more than 70 different communication drivers, among other STX/ETX and TCP for C++, Delphi, Visual Basic, VB.NET, C#.NET, Java and VBA/Excel/Access. Supported operating systems are Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP and Linux. Furthermore the RK512 protocol can be deployed to drive a SIMATIC S5 over 3964NET with the LUCA drivers.
